International Special Course on Environmental Systems Engineering Doctorial Course 2008

The Faculty of Engineering is pleased to implement a special educational and research Program for Doctoral Degree in Engineering with elective courses in English and scholarships for overseas students with outstanding scholastic ability.

The special program has been founded in a spirit of international cooperation toward the solution of the Earth's Environmental Problems, as we transfer towards the next generation. The first program was started in Fall 2002 through the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MONBUKAGAKUSHO) and the new program’s first year of activities was exactly started in Fall 2007.

Doctoral students in Kyushu University enjoy some of the best experimental facilities in the world and study along side with distinguished faculty and associates to develop creative and original research that is published in highly respected international journals.

Twenty students are admitted per year into Graduate School of Engineering, ten of which are awarded with Monbukagakusho scholarships. Graduate School of Engineering has tried to develop seeds for new industrial areas, to develop sustainable energy resources and to study ways for protecting the earth's environment.

In the new structure, in 2002, the graduate school of engineering has been organized into five advanced departments, namely: Earth Resources Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Urban and Environmental Engineering, Applied Quantum Physics and Nuclear Engineering, and Maritime Engineering.

The aim of each department is to educate and train students of the Earth Environmental Engineering in depth in their respective specialization.  At the same time, the departments try to work together within the school to foster wide views and flexible minds in the students. For this purpose, the Graduate School provides education on several levels, with some common lectures on Environmental Engineering for all students and advanced lectures as well as departmental specialty courses. Lectures in English are arranged in various areas of concentration. Research supervision could also be given in English.
